TGIFF – THANK GOODNESS IT’S FOURTH FRIDAY! DANCE TO THE PRANKSTERS 18-PIECE BIG BAND – EVERY 4TH FRIDAY (except December & February 2010)
The Grieg Lodge 4th Friday big band dance invites you to get your retro groove on. Learn or polish your ballroom dance steps with Mary Ann Carter from 7-8pm, and then strut your stuff to the Pranksters big band from 8-11pm. Oslo Lounge opens at 6:00. Admission is $7 (Sons of Norway members $5). Members & guests of all ages welcome.

NEW YEAR’S EVE AT PORTLAND’S HISTORIC NORSE HALL
Ring in the New Year in vintage style with Art Abrams Swing Machine Big Band. Treat yourself to a wonderful evening of dancing in one of Portland’s finest ballrooms. Includes catered evening appetizers. Doors open at 8:15 pm. Advance tickets $35 (no door sales). Reserve a table for ten: $350. Click here for more information.

VIKING PANCAKE BREAKFASTS IN 2010 – FEBRUARY 7, MARCH 14, APRIL 25 (special Grieg Lodge Birthday Brunch), MAY 9 (Mother’s Day), JUNE 13, SEPTEMBER 12 & OCTOBER 10
What better way to start the day than with a plate of delicious, all-you-can pancakes? Our popular breakfast also includes sides of eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, applesauce, orange juice, tea and bottomless coffee - all served up with Norwegian charm from 8:30 am to 1:00pm Adults: $6. Children 5-12: $3 (under 5: free). Children's Nordic story time in the library from 10-11am.

‘HIGH COFFEE’ AFTERNOON – 3RDOR 4TH SUNDAY IN FEBRUARY
Indulge in an elegant afternoon of rich coffee, Norwegian delicacies and short cultural program presented in a salon-like setting. Our signature ‘High Coffee’ service includes 3-tiered Norwegian savories and sweets, coffee & tea. Attire: vintage, traditional or contemporary dressy. Hats and gloves encouraged. Ladies & Gentlemen of all ages welcome. Time: 3:00-5:00pm. Reservations required. Cost: $15. Check calendar for contact and date information.

NORDIC VS. IRISH TRACK BOWLING TOURNAMENT – 2ND SATURDAY IN MARCH – 1:00-4:00pm
It’s an ancient rivalry going back to the Viking age – and a great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Put a team together (4-persons) and meet us on the field of battle (Buckman Field) for our urban version of Irish Road Bowling (using the same cannonball equipment). We call it Nordic Urban Track Bowling (aka NUT Bowling), ‘cuz we made it up! All ages welcome rain or shine. Pick a side: are you a fearsome Viking or a darling Leprechaun? GRIEG LODGE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: APRIL 17 - MAY 17, 2010
We’ll be marking our 100-year jubilee with a month of festivities and events. Please check the Centennial page for all the details.

ANNUAL GRIEG LODGE BIRTHDAY BRUNCH – APRIL
You’re invited to celebrate our birthday with a delicious brunch, and support the Grieg Lodge Scholarship Fund. The festivities include a raffle and presentation this year’s scholarship recipients. NOTE: THE 2010 BIRTHDAY BRUNCH TAKES PLACE APRIL 25.

MAY 17 – SYTTENDE MAI CELEBRATION & PARADE
Norway’s most important national holiday – May 17 (Constitution Day) - is celebrated here in Portland in a community-wide event that has been sponsored by Grieg Lodge for generations. Join us for authentic Norwegian food, dancing and national dress, Norwegian Fjord horses and a grand flag parade led by the Benson High School marching band through the Lloyd District. Rain or shine, the event happens on May 17 every year.

ANNUAL GRIEG LODGE OPEN HOUSE – 2ND SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER 1:00-3:00pm
Everyone is invited to take a peek at what goes on inside Portland’s historic and vibrant Norse Hall, home of Grieg Lodge since 1928. Enjoy our hospitality and a showcase of Nordic arts and crafts including demonstrations of Norwegian folk dancing, Hardanger needlework, rosemaling decorative painting, cooking, and much more. Also building tours, and visits to our renowned library. The doors are wide open! Velkommen!

BOO NORSK! CHILDREN'S HALLOWEEN PARTY - 4th FRIDAY IN OCTOBER: 5:00-6:00PM
Dress up in your costume and join us for a masquerade parade and some pre-Halloween fun! Games, crafts, food and pumpkins for children.

REEL NORDIC FILM FEST – 1st SUNDAY IN NOVEMBER 11:00am-9:00pm
Explore the rich heritage of classic and contemporary Scandinavian film-making every 2nd Tuesday – and once a year, make a whole day of it! Free admission. Refreshments available.

THE GRIEG LODGE SCHOLARSHIP SALE & BUCKET RAFFLE – 2nd SUNDAY IN NOVEMBER
Shop in the Ballroom on Lutefisk Sunday. Choose from a variety of new & gently used items with a Nordic twist, also creations made by the Artists of the Lodge and other wonderful raffle prizes. All proceeds from the sale & bucket raffle benefit the Grieg Lodge Scholarship Fund.

CHRISTMAS COOKIE BAKE-FEST – LAST SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER
Nordic tradition has it that seven kinds of cookies are required for the holiday season – but who has time, or all the recipes? We do! Many hands and spoons make light work! Join us. Learn recipes, take home an assortment of goodies, and contribute to the lodge Christmas Party and Julesangfest Christmas Service.

CHILDREN’S NORWEGIAN-AMERICAN CHRISTMAS PARTY – 2nd SATURDAY IN DECEMBER 1:00-4:00
Giant Christmas tree, holiday songs (in Norwegian and English) endless homemade Norwegian cookies and a visit with Julenisse (Santa) – it’s a perfect child’s Christmas at Norse Hall – magical for grown-ups, too! Free.
