About Grieg Lodge
Norwegian Culture, Events & Community in Portland
Grieg Lodge | Norwegian Cultural Events, Community, and Traditions in Portland, OR
Grieg Lodge offers a wide range of cultural and social activities for all ages, with many opportunities to have fun, volunteer, and get involved with both the lodge and the community. Here you will find a place to develop lasting friendships with others who share your interests and love of all things Scandinavian. We encourage our members to contribute their ideas for new activities, resulting in a vibrant and active lodge. Member meetings are held the first Thursday of every month except July and August. You have the chance to socialize, make new friends, sign up to volunteer for upcoming activities, and keep up with the latest business and activities of the lodge. Keep up with what’s going on by checking our Events page.
Grieg Lodge celebrates all the Norwegian traditions. Every year Norway’s most important national holiday – Syttende Mai (May 17 Constitution Day) – is celebrated here in Portland in a community-wide event that has been sponsored by Grieg Lodge for generations. Join us for authentic Norwegian food, dancing and national dress, and local high school marching bands. Rain or shine, the event happens on May 17 every year. Our Lutefisk Dinner sells out every year, and many say our Viking Pancake Breakfasts are the best breakfast in town.
Be sure to visit our Landhandel gift shop, open during major lodge events. Here you’ll find a selection of gently used Norwegian sweaters, some bunads, utensils for cooking special Norwegian foods, and many decorative items lovingly donated from members’ family heirlooms. All proceeds from the sale of these items go to our Grieg Lodge Scholarship Fund.
